Mechanics, observation and experiment
I am not an enthusiast of photographic technique, without saying that it does not interest me. Devices photos-box of matches which I made are a reduction of the possible techniques of the device and a return in the rough of the photography: a breakthrough of light printed on a paper the chemistry of which captures the same light.
The approach is very different from a camera which we have well in hand; often heavy, we place it in front of the eye, it is the capture by the look. With a matchbox, all this disappears to give way to a motionless position, the object in hands. No sight. Not especially not move, or better: find a support. Everything takes place in the uprising of the tongue, the one who hides the hole of a needle. Hold the breath, not pay attention on the passers-by who look questioningly at me. Silence. No click. The image settled. It is now necessary to shoot the film. The box of match on the ear, by means of a key or of a metal rod, to listen to the noise of the film which moves forward by counting the small clicks.
I like photographing places or objects of our contemporary world. Remove the human being. Let appear only its presence. Stressed by the diffuse image, sometimes slightly deformed and covered with tasks of light, the printing that these images want to give is the one of a dream of another world, different reality where what surrounds us would not be more than the memory of lost times.
